How Does Identity Resolution Improve Customer Experience?

Identity resolution

Identity resolution improves customer experience by letting you answer a person at the stage they are in, instead of answering the signal. Those are different things, and most of the mistakes happen in the gap between them.

The pricing-page scene

Someone is researching pricing for a solution like yours. That tells you where they are in their journey. It does not tell you what they want to hear from you.

The wrong answers are the familiar ones: a message asking whether they found what they were looking for, or one thanking them for stopping by. Both announce that you were watching. Everything should be useful, and nothing should be creepy.

What personalization means

Personalization is working out which stage of the journey a prospect is in and giving them content that moves them to the next one. Intent informs that. It does not trigger a reply.

Intent, in our terms, is a person's daily deviation from their own baseline, measured per topic and scored low, medium or high. The intent data guide covers how the signal is built.

The sequence I use

  • Step 1: have snackable content built for that stage of the pipeline before anyone arrives.
  • Step 2: find the other members of the buying group and see what they are searching.
  • Step 3: check whether research on that topic is climbing, holding or fading.
  • Step 4: decide what to send to whom.

The actual messaging happens in the creatives. Delivr only guides it, with the unifying message. The Unifying Message approach is one sentence that is true for every member of the buying group, which is what lets the same stage-based content work for several people at once.

Why step 2 needs identity

To find the other members of the buying group you have to know who each person is and which company they work for. That is the resolution step: a resolved person is linked to a company through employment and buying group signals. Intent then shows what each of them is researching, person by person, not company by company.

In an open opportunity

When a deal is already open, see who is researching on your site or an extended site, add them to the buying group, and market to them as part of it.

Invite them into the conversation without revealing the signal and without revealing a colleague's deal. Do not write that you saw them on the pricing page. Do not write that you are selling to someone else at their company. Offer what a person in their role needs to weigh the decision, and let the conversation be theirs to join.

What the person experiences

They get the next useful thing, from a company that understands where they are. Nothing in the message tells them they were watched.

The definitions are in what identity resolution is. Common identity resolution mistakes covers what goes wrong when intent becomes a sales alert.
